In 1946, shortly after the end of World War II, Charles and James Palermo opened a small grocery store at 921 Asbury Ave in Ocean City, NJ with the help of a GI Bill Loan. As time passed, the small grocery store got busier and busier and soon outgrew its walls as local customers and vacationers relied on the Palermo family for their grocery needs. So, in 1955, the store relocated to 401 Asbury Ave and served its customers from that site year round until 1976. In 1976 as a result of rising energy costs and stiffer competition, the Palermo’s decided to focus only on their busiest season: summer, opening from mid-May until early fall every year.

In 1985, Charles Palermo decided to retire after nearly 40 years in the grocery business. Fred Palermo, along with his two sons Joe and Steve decided to take over the store after years of working there as students. Since then, the store has been completely remodeled both inside and out. As a result of the remodels, Palermo’s Family Market was the first grocery store in Ocean City with scanning check outs. Each year the store gets a face lift to both the fixtures and décor. We hope you will come in to see our improvements as well as shop our full line of fresh, local produce & seafood, our full service meat section, deli, grocery, dairy, frozen foods, health and beauty, GMD, as well as specialty and ethnic foods. We offer 100 everyday low prices on the items you buy everyday. We carry everything for your shopping needs and deliver it with fast and courteous service at great prices.

In addition to our store, we also offer a café with internet access as well as a full service coffee bar serving Green Mountain coffee and tea all day. Hungry? We’re open every day from 7 am until 9 pm with one of the members of the Palermo family here to serve your family.
